The Disney Experience with an Allergy: Hollywood Studios

Pizza-1

I mean, is she the cutest or what?

Vivian

Vivian and I are in Disney World with our families for a week-long vacation! While we are here, we are writing about some of our favorite places to eat, tips when dining in Disney, and the overall experience of being at the Most Magical Place on Earth with an allergy!

This is part 2 of a 4 part post series all about Disney, Disney, Disney! Read our first post about Epcot here.

Like I said in our previous post, the Disney cast members, chefs, and anyone who works for Disney World does an excellent job of being well informed about our allergy and taking all the precautions necessary to allow Viv and me to enjoy our trip to the fullest without any worries of a reaction. I even think I forgot that I had an allergy a few times, and for someone who deals with an allergy, you know that we never get a break from checking every little thing that we eat, so it was very nice!

I recommend making reservations for everywhere you’d like to eat because it gives the restaurant time to prepare for your arrival. And, when you are going to a restaurant with special requests it’s courteous to let the establishment know ahead of time, but I also just showed up at a few places (especially for lunch) and the service was the same. I also emailed Disney at special.diets@disneyworld.com a few days before our trip (they ask you to email them at least two weeks ahead of when you are going if you have multiple allergies or more than one person in your party with allergies) and they emailed me an awesome list of most of the restaurants and parks on property and what they might have that is dairy-free. It was the perfect go-to when deciding where to eat and I often referred to it when ordering dessert. If I knew that a restaurant had Enjoy Life cookies on the list, then I would specifically ask for them for dessert.

In this blog post, we have decided to share our experience at Hollywood Studios (or MGM, as I will always call it in my heart). This is the movie park, centered around all the big Hollywood films, and also home to two of Disney’s biggest thrill-seeking rides: Rock N’ Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror.

My personal favorite things to do at this park are The Great Movie Ride, Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream exhibit, and Lights, Motors, Action!

The Disney Experience with an Allergy: Epcot

Epcot---BELLE

Hiiii from the Most Magical Place on Earth!

Epcot---BELLE

Can’t.breathe. It’s Belle. My favorite princess. Ahhhh… “Little town, it’s a quiet village..”

Vivian and I are here in Disney World with our families for a week-long vacation! We are so excited to be here and can’t wait to share all of our tips, favorite places to go, and overall experiences while eating at the most magical place on earth.

This is part 1 of a 4 part post series about eating at Disney with an allergy! And don’t worry, Disney doesn’t disappoint. I think I even forgot that I had an allergy while I was here because of how well the cast members, chefs, and anyone that works for Disney handles allergies.

What I love most about the Disney dining experience is that the chef or manager of the establishment always comes out and takes your order for your meal and talks to you about all of the options, and they always avoid cross-contamination at all costs and will alert you if any food items might be cross-contaminated.

In our first blog post, we have decided to share our experience at Epcot. The park that can take you from Mexico to Germany in a matter of minutes by far has the most restaurants on Disney property, so Epcot was where we ate almost all of our dinners.

We dined with fish at Coral Reef Restaurant, ate pizza from Vesuvius at Via Napoli in Italy, visited Belle at Monsieur Paul in France, got henna tattoos at Tangierine Café in Morocco, and so much more!

Allergy Friendly Fun Treats for Valentine’s Day

Valentine's-Day-Overview

Valentine's-Day-Overview

Happy (early) Valentine’s Day! As many of you prepare for the big snowpocalypse that is taking over most southern states, I am preparing to drive to Disney World for a weekend of fun in the sun. Don’t judge me too hard.

These sweet treats are my new favorites. I love them! Not only are they so easy to make, but they are so.good.

I introduce to you: melt-in-your-mouth snow kisses, delicious heart-shaped rice crispy treats, and super sweet think pink parfaits!

If you are planning a party at school with all your friends (and by the way, who isn’t?) then these are the perfect yummy treats to bring!

Valentine’s Day is an awesome holiday. It’s the only holiday that is dedicated solely to telling the people you love how much you love them. What could be better than that? But I hope that this Valentine’s Day you make a resolution to tell the people you love that you love them more often than just on Valentine’s Day. I think this holiday is a great jumping off point, but let’s take it a step further…

I LOVE YOU GUYS! Thank you so much for reading our blog. It means the world to Vivian and me, and I’m having a blast sharing all these recipes with you!

So spread the love, and comment below with who you should tell that you love them more.

Every day is a party at Christmastime–Christmas parties at school, Christmas parties at church, Neighborhood Christmas caroling, and cookie decorating!  It is a fabulous time for everyone, most especially a sweet little 6 year old girl.

But with Christmas parties comes lots of Christmas goodies—most of them covered, smothered, mixed, and whipped with lots of dairy.  So, we are working hard to give Vivian the same sweet toothed treats but with a few modifications!

Let’s all be clear on one thing: my grandmother, Grammy as she is known in my family, rocks. She’s so cool, funny, beautiful and just overall amazing. She lived with my parents for a month when I was born to help take care of me, and would drive 13 hours from her home in Moulton, Alabama to South Florida (where we lived until I was ten) twice a month for years. Of course, Abuelo (my Puerto Rican Grandfather, yes, I’m 1/4 Puerto Rican) was there too, but more about him later ;)

Grammy used to hold me for hours as a baby while I cried and cried and cried, and when we discovered it was because of my dairy allergy, she was as relieved as I was. She knew that was the reason (besides just being a baby) that I was so upset all the time my first years of life… because my tummy hurt!

Fresh Apple Cake with Eggless Eggnog Frosting

Apple-Cake

AppleCake2

Well is that title a mouthful or what? But that’s only because this cake is… a mouthful of deliciousness!

Hold the front door!

Not to put down all my other posts, but this cake is hands down at the top of my list for favorite recipes. It’s kind of like a pake (pie & cake). It’s chewy and chunky like a pie, but fluffy and light like a cake! How does it get any better than that? And the eggless eggnog frosting, I can’t even. There’s just so much deliciousness wrapped up in one cake.

Also, this continues the week of Grandma’s cookbook recipes (who liked the corn pudding?)

Pumpkin Pie with Chocolate Drizzle

Thanksgiving is almost here!!! Thanksgiving is almost here!

Which means two things:

1. Foods comas, lots of em’.

2. I can start listening to my Taylor Swift Christmas album with no shame!

*(Not that I feel any shame from listening to it in July, it’s just that it’s more socially acceptable to wait until November/December to blast “Last Christmas” while I’m cruising down the road, if ya know what I mean)*

Mummy Cupcakes

MummyPumpkin1

Cupcakes are by far the hardest dessert to watch other people eat. Like when you go out to dinner with some friends, or your family, and it’s of course concluded with a group dessert buffet (at least it looks like a buffet because they order so much).

“Oh, I wanna try this one!”

“And I wanna try this one!”

“Why don’t you order that and I’ll order this, and we’ll share!!”
